National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID)

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that conducts and supports research to understand, treat, and prevent infectious, immunologic, and allergic diseases. Founded in 1948, NIAID's mission is to lead research that enhances nation's health security by developing new vaccines, diagnostics, and treatments. The primary office is located in Bethesda, Maryland.
